Learn to surf

The beginner lessons take place in the bay of the Cove, the area nearest to the shoreline. The bay offers slow moving, knee-high, whitewater waves, which are perfect for beginner surfers to learn, practice and have fun in a safe and controlled environment.

Lessons for young surfers and adult beginners may be cancelled at short notice if temps fall under 4°C, and all surf sessions (including Reef) will pause at 2°C for safety. Our family ticket will allow 3 of you to join one of our group beginner lessons. Valid for one adult and two children up to 16 years.

The improver lessons take place on the reef, on slow peeling open-face waves. The waves are approximately knee to thigh high and are ideal for surfers who would like to learn how to master the take-off, control the trajectory of their board and trim along the open-face of the wave.

Our Improver Plus lesson takes your surfing progression to the next level. Building on the foundations of the Improver lesson, you’ll move to our Cruiser Plus wave, offering a longer, slightly steeper face and more speed for refining your techniques.

During this lession, you’ll work on:

• Mastering angled take-offs to align with the wave’s face.

• Building speed and trimming more effectively along the wave.

• Beginning to link simple turns, working on transitions from rail to rail.

• Improving your wave awareness and positioning to catch waves confidently.
